Training opportunities in the Peninsula

The Peninsula offers the whole range of the curriculum across a range of teaching hospitals & smaller DGH & community hospitals.

It offers everything form hyper-acute care such as acute thrombolysis stroke  training through to chronic disease management & community geriatrics.

We provide training in syncope (tilt testing facilities), memory clinics, Parkinson’s, Rehabilitation, Dementia & Memory services. Orthogeriatrics services are comprehensive from managing acutely ill patient with fractured hip peri-operativley through to rehabilitation. Increasingly offering other training opportunities in peri-operative medicine. Through our colleagues we are able to offer sub-speciality training in pyscho-geriatrics, palliative care, heart failure & continence.

Community Geriatrics is a growth area & we offer specific posts in this as well as attachments to schemes like Hospital @ Home.

Parkinson’s is well represented with one of the few dedicated in-patient PD wards & we have a comprehensive apomorhine service & work closely with community PD Nurses.

Stoke offers general training as well as option to do additional Stroke sub-speciality training to gain an additional CCT.

Across all our hospitals there are services at the front door & we are closely linked with Acute Medicine as well as a large range of community hospitals & community based clinics.

Trainees often gain additional training in teaching doing Certificates in Medical Education. The two Medical Schools work closely with us & we provide a lot of teaching to clinical medical students for both Universities & there are courses provided to gain the competencies to deliver teaching.

Research continues to grow formally through ACF (Academic Clinical Fellowship NIHR schemes) & we currently have 5 trainees in this programme. It is possible to do research alongside too as OOP or Phd. Two trainees have completed PhD in last 3 years & we have an additional trainee in progress.

There are also management training & patient safety training opportunities.
